About Thierry Giasson

Thierry Giasson is an Associate Professor in the Information and Communication Department at Université Laval, Quebec City. He holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Montreal. Dr Giasson is the Lead Investigator of the Research Laboratory on Political Communication (GRCP) at Université Laval. He is also a Research Associate in the Institut Technologie de l’information et Sociétés (ITIS) at Université Laval and at the Centre for the Study of Democratic Citizenship (CSCD) at McGill University. His work currently focuses on new forms of political communication on the Internet, on cognitive and physiological reactions to television election advertising, on media coverage of cultural diversity issues in Quebec and on the effects of political communication and marketing practices on electoral campaigns, political participation and civic engagement in Quebec and Canada.

In 2007, Dr Giasson was appointed Pacific Northwest-Quebec Initiative Visiting Professor in Quebec Politics at Western Washington University in Bellingham and the University of Washington in Seattle.

He is co-director, with Alex Marland (Memorial, Canada) and Jennifer Lees-Marshment (Auckland, NZ), of the book Political Marketing in Canada (UBC Press, 2012). For the same publisher, he is currently preparing Political Communication in Canada, in collaboration with Alex Marland and Tamara Small (Guelph, Canada), to be published in 2014. His recent work has been published in the Canadian Journal of Political Science, Communication, Journal of Political Marketing, the Canadian Journal of Communication, Communication Issues and International Journal of Interactive Communication Systems and Technologies.
